In a recent study, scientists found topical curcumin gel is effective against burns and scalds. The patients enjoyed less pain and inflammation and reduced severity of the burn when a gel product of curcumin was used immediately after a burn. Patients also had faster healing with less scarring.

The researchers believe the patient results are from better absorption of the anti-inflammatory characteristics of the product, rather than an oral preparation. Curcumin is an ingredient in a spice turmeric.

Researchers from Iowa State University research group has found that catnip is 10 times more effective in repelling mosquitoes than DEET. This is the same group which found that catnip was also effective in repelling cockroaches. DEET has significant side effects which range from dizziness to disorientation and even death.
