In The News

Researchers from Bristol have discovered that if your maternal grandmother smoked, a girl in the next two generations has a 67 percent greater risk of having autism-like characteristics, including poor social skills and repetitive behaviors. This also increased the risk that the grandmother’s grandchildren had a 53 percent greater risk of have an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis.

The researchers analyzed the history of over 14,500 participants in this study to reach these results. This was part of an ongoing, long-term study to evaluate the results of smoking on the following two or three generations of children, demonstrating that certain health decisions you make may not affect only you - but also your children and your children’s children.

Daily Health Tip

Making smart health decisions isn’t only about YOU - but you affect generations to come.

Making Changes

It cannot be stressed enough that healthy lifestyle choices lead to a long healthy life. Waiting until you suffer from disease and illness to ask WHY something happened may have meant you waited too long before questioning the decisions you make every day. Yesterday’s Making Changes bears repeating:

Your overall health depends on your ability to manage stress, get between 7-9 hours of quality sleep, drink enough clean, pure water to stay hydrated, get at least 45 minutes of exercise each day, move throughout the day, stop smoking, limit alcohol use, limit any drug use (including prescription) as much as possible and eat a diet high in healthy saturated fats ( including coconut oil, avocados, raw nuts and seeds, and limited pastured, organic, GMO free meat and dairy).

Daily Affirmation

I watch for those times when I feel a sense of flow. Time flies by when I am using my strong points. I feel confident and exhilarated.
I think about past experiences. I notice the patterns behind major victories and happy memories. For more ideas, I read books and browse online for personality tests. I feel excited when I discover valuable assets I may be taking for granted.

Fact or Fiction?

Have you been putting off your vacation? Well, you probably shouldn’t!  Did you know that vacation can increase your creativity and productivity, reduce your risk of heart attack, reduce stress and feelings of depression, and increase intimacy with your spouse. And, interestingly, the United States is the only developed country without a single legally required paid vacation day or holiday.  It might not be required by the government, but it’s in the best interest of your health to take those days when you can!

Have a wonderful day!
