In The News
Researcher from the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering used an animal model as proof of concept on a new patch using dissolvable microneedles to monitor and manage blood glucose in diabetics.
While this new treatment model may help, it will not reduce your potential risk for health conditions that are associated with diabetes, such as heart disease, congestive heart failure, stroke, kidney disease, blindness and peripheral vascular disease that may result in loss of your foot or leg.
Daily Health Tip
Diabetes is mostly a preventable disease. You can manage your disease without medication using exercise, sleep, hydration and food choices.
Diabetes and cancer have something in common - they are a function of mitochondrial dysfunction. Some simple changes will help to modify the way in which your mitochondria function and reduce stress on the little engines that are the basis for energy production in your body.
- Intermittent fasting - or going between 12 and 15 hours without food helps to reset the mitochondria.
- Reduce your sugar and carbohydrate intake.
- Sleep in a completely darkened room as this increases your production of melatonin, which is a potent antioxidant and protects your mitochondria.
- Ensure you are getting enough of the following vitamins and minerals:
- Ubiquinol (if you’re over 40) or CoQ10 (if you’re younger than 40).
- All B vitamins
- Alpha - lipoic acid (ALA)
Before running to the supplement store for a bottle of each, spend a few minutes researching the foods that provide you with the nutrition. If you feel you’re short, then make that trip. Don’t get overwhelmed by looking things up - just look at one thing each day and before you know it you’ll have created a plan that will help prevent cancer.
I surround myself with positive energy.
I love when the energy around me is positive. It makes me feel able to accomplish all I set out to do. I go in search of people, things, and places that exude that positivity and encouragement.
Fact or Fiction?
Snow is bright white, beautiful and dangerous - all at the same time. In one of the cities in the US that receives more snow than any other, they tried something a bit unusual to fight their snow problems. They outlawed snow . . .
Syracuse NY, one of the snowiest cities in the US, decided that enough was enough. In 1992, it decreed that snowfall before Christmas eve would be illegal. The Commons Council apparently didn’t know that Mother Nature had other ideas and it snowed just two days later!
Have a wonderful day!
