FACT OR FICTION: Do you know these heart disease facts?

In The News

Researchers from Ohio University have found evidence that increasing your levels of vitamin D3 may help restore cardiovascular damage, hypertension, diabetes and atherosclerosis.

Taking a vitamin D3 supplement is possible (do NOT use vitamin D2 as it is associated with an increased risk of heart attack - the formulation is not appropriate for use) - sensible and safe sun exposure is the best way to get water soluble vitamin D3 produced by your body.

Daily Health Tip

If you can’t get sun exposure because of your climate, then taking a vitamin D3 supplement is acceptable - be sure to get a vitamin D3 level drawn every 6 months to ensure you are taking enough.

Making Changes

Supplementation: Take vitamin D3 with vitamin K2-MK7 form to prevent calcification of your arteries.

Sun: Get sun exposure over 40 percent of your body until your skin turns a very light pink once daily. This is usually not more than 20 minutes between 10am and 2pm when the sun is highest in the sky. You WANT the UVB rays that are greatest in those hours. UVA causes cellular damage and has the same power throughout the day and the year, while UVB is weakest when the sun is low in the sky.

Daily Affirmation

I enjoy teaching my children the importance of balancing both sides. When I am able to teach them to be fair, I know I am effectively negotiating. The values they learn from those lessons are priceless. I feel like they are developing good negotiation skills.
When tough situations arise suddenly, I go into negotiation mode. I avoid getting flustered. I think quickly on my feet to find a way out. That often involves arriving at an acceptable bargaining position.
