IN YOUR DAILY DOSE:today is research that links a Mediterranean diet to your energy profile and your ability to pay attention.
MAKING CHANGES: Adding Mediterranean fare to your meals is easy - even if the meals you’re eating aren’t strictly Mediterranean.
FACT OR FICTION: What qualifies as a mammal?
In The News
In the first study of dietary patterns linking Mediterranean foods with ADHD, this study found a lower number of children diagnosed with the condition of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The research was published in the journal Pediatrics and originated from the University of Barcelona.
The results suggest that unhealthy eating habits are linked to the development of health conditions, something researchers have known for over a decade. You and your children really are what you eat - and making healthy food choices may lower your risk for more than ADHD.
A total of 120 children with ADHD were studied, and although the study didn’t prove cause-effect, it did demonstrate a strong association. This may also indicate that ADHD is affected by multiple body systems, much like most other health conditions.
Daily Health Tip
A Mediterranean diet is rich in fruits, vegetables and healthy fats. Although the study didn’t prove this diet could protect against ADHD, it did indicate that children who ate healthier foods demonstrated an improvement in behavior.
A Mediterranean diet is rich in multi-colored vegetables and healthy fats, including wild caught salmon, pastured/organic/non-GMO meat and dairy, raw nuts and seeds, avocados, and olive oil. These are changes you can make to your current diet, along with removing junk foods and soda.
I am sensitive to the needs of others.
I notice the needs of others and empathize with them in their struggles. I lend a listening ear, offer a shoulder to cry on, and do whatever I can to uplift them.
Fact or Fiction?
Mammals are animals who bear live young, nurse them and have hair or fur. Most mammals walk on four legs, while others have two or none. What was once thought to be unique to humans (menopause) has also been confirmed in pilot whales and killer whales. These are the only three mammals who lost fertility years before death. This allows both humans and whales to act as caretakers for their young, helping them to grow to adulthood, and take care of their grandchildren as well.
Have a wonderful day!
