You are Living Longer and Longer!

Living.jpgIN YOUR DAILY DOSE
today is news that life expectancy since 1990 has increased in the United States but health issues are still a concern. Even some of the poorest countries in the world have experienced changes to their life expectancy.

IN FACT OR FICTION you’ll learn about a fish that can sit still and still breathe.

In The News

Your life expectancy has increased by six years since 1990. This means that life and health insurance actuaries [people who estimate the cost of living for insurance companies] now expect you to live an additional six years more than you did almost 20 years ago.

However, that additional length of life comes with a cost. Although people are living longer – even in the poorest countries – the mix of fatal and nonfatal health conditions are causing a tremendous healthcare burden.

The improvements in caring for individuals with malaria, HIV/AIDS and improvements in addressing communicable, maternal and neonatal disorders has improved life expectancy around the world. Researchers also found that the top leading causes of health loss across the globe were:

Ischemic Heart Disease

Lower Respiratory Infection
Stroke
Low Back and Neck Pain

Road Injuries

Diarrheal Diseases

Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease

Daily Health Tip

While the number of years we are living healthy is increasing, the diseases and conditions which are significantly affecting our health continue to be those that affect our cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Making significant changes to the way we eat, exercise and sleep will all improve the health of those systems and reduce the potential you experience issues.

Making Changes

Making changes to your diet, sleep habits, stress reduction and exercise habits all require dedication, consistency and a commitment to change. Each of these things can be a challenge, but one you are more than up to. The alternative is illness, disease, unhappiness, pain and suffering. Although in the future, these conditions can take a significant toll on your life and the life of your family.

Commit today to making changes, however small, to improve your health. Over time, those small changes will add up to big rewards.

My Daily Affirmation

My kids feel comfortable talking to me about anything. I encourage them to be open with me because I am here to help them. Even when I disapprove of their actions, I put it to them in a firm yet understanding way.

I stay connected to my emotions. They help me to maintain an open heart and a kind spirit.

Fact Or Fiction?

You’ve heard that fish have to move in order to breathe. The idea is that water flows in the mouth and out through the gills, extracting oxygen from the water along the way. However, there is one fish that doesn’t move when it’s cold and doesn’t need to move to breathe.  You might not guess which one it is – click here to find out.
