In The News

Do you like you cluttered kitchen, desk piled with papers or bedroom with clothes on the floor? Maybe you tell yourself that you know where everything is, so what’s the point in putting it away?

Well, if you want to maintain or lose weight, it’s time to clean up your environment. According to this study of cluttered kitchens, women who are stressed out would eat twice as many cookies compared to women in the same kitchen when it was organized. In total it amounted to 65 more calories in a 10 minute period of time.

According to Science Daily, "Being in a chaotic environment and feeling out of control is bad for diets. It seems to lead people to think, 'Everything else is out of control, so why shouldn't I be?'" says lead author Lenny Vartanian, PhD., now Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of New South Wales in Australia. "I suspect the same would hold with males," he adds.”

Daily Health Tip

Keeping your environment clean and uncluttered does more than just keep you from eating too much. Living in a cluttered home will also increase your risk of experiencing depression.

You home, desk, car and bedroom are the places you spend the most time. Keeping these areas uncluttered and organized well will help you be more productive, creative and healthy.

Making Changes

You might think it’s difficult to keep your area clean, but it’s just taking one step at a time, one day at a time and you’ll see big results. Start with one area of your home, or even one area of one room and move forward.

For instance, focus on one counter in the kitchen and put everything away. Every time you’re tempted to get that area of the kitchen dirty or messy, remember that keeping the counter clean is your way of keeping weight off and reducing your risk of depression.

This is not about what your mother wanted, but rather about what YOU want. When your environment is uncluttered, so is your mind. You’ll be more creative and productive in all areas of life.

Once you can keep one counter clean and uncluttered, it’s time to expand. Choose another counter in the same room until the whole room is clean and uncluttered for a month. Notice the difference in how you feel when you enter that room and use it as motivation to clear out the rest of your home and workspace.

My Daily Affirmation

My kids also deserve warm attention from me. I encourage them to be their best and remind them how gifted they are.

When they express self-doubt, I take the time to shower them with confidence. Pointing out their strengths is a great way to remind them of their worth. I also tell my kids how much they are loved regardless of how well they do.

Fact Or Fiction?

There is one country where there are more large animals of one species than there are people.

Australia is a beautiful country, populated by more kangaroos than people. Lake Hillier is pink in color and no one understands why. It’s an amazing site from the air. Melbourne is a cosmopolitan city that was once called Batmania!  In 1859 24 rabbits were introduced to a country that didn’t have rabbits. Today there are over 2 million roaming the countryside. One of their exports are camels which they send to Saudi Arabia.

Have a wonderful day!
