Drinking Water is Important to Your Health

Copy_of_ThursJune15CI.jpg IN YOUR DAILY DOSE: you’ll discover research from the University of Illinois that  looks at how water consumption changes metabolism, calorie intake and the kind of  foods you’re more likely to eat.

MAKING CHANGES: It’s a simple change that makes a big difference.

FACT OR FICTION: Do dogs sweat?

In The News

In a recent study of eating habits of more than 18,000 adults in the U.S. found those who increased their consumption of plain water by just one percent, also enjoyed a reduction in calorie intake as well as a reduction in their consumption of fats, sugar, sodium and cholesterol.

While healthy, grass-fed, organically raised saturated fats are not unhealthy for you (nor do they trigger heart disease and stroke!), sugar and too much sodium from processed foods does. Those who added one to three cups of water per day to their normal intake also reduced their calories by up to 200 calories per day. Ruopeng An, study author from the University of Illinois kinesiology and community health department, commented:

"The impact of plain water intake on diet was similar across race/ethnicity, education and income levels and body weight status. This finding indicates that it might be sufficient to design and deliver universal nutrition interventions and education campaigns that promote plain water consumption in replacement of beverages with calories in diverse population subgroups without profound concerns about message and strategy customization."

Daily Health Tip

Water has, and always will be, the best thing you can drink to replenish your body’s hydration needs. The adult body is between 55 and 60 percent water - it’s not replenished by drinking soda, coffee, tea or any other fluid that contains additives.

Making Changes

Although drinking tea or coffee is not inherently unhealthy, it is absolutely essential your body receives enough plain, clean water to stay hydrated. Drink enough until your urine is a light straw color - that’s how you know you’re fully hydrated.

Daily Affirmation

Recommending alternatives give me an easy way to conciliate with others. I realize that it is simpler to gain cooperation when I promote inclusive discussion. I am happy with meeting someone halfway after fair and open negotiation.
Fact or Fiction?

Although covered in hair or fur, dogs will only sweat between their paws. The only other mechanism to cool their body temperature is panting. They can easily breathe 300-400 times a minute while panting heavily, as opposed to their normal breathing rate of 30 -40 times per minute.

Have a wonderful day!
