In The News

Researchers are delving into issues of health and quality of life as more people are living into their 80s. In a recent study from the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, researchers found feeding mice a healthy, high fat diet not only increased how long the mice lived but also improved their physical strength. These changes may reduce the potential for losing independence as you age. Senior author and nutritionist, Jon Ramsey, commented:

"The results surprised me a little. We expected some differences, but I was impressed by the magnitude we observed -- a 13 percent increase in median life span for the mice on a high fat vs high carb diet. In humans, that would be seven to 10 years. But equally important, those mice retained quality of health in later life."

Daily Health Tip

Physicians are limited in their treatment based on the standard of care by their association. It is more important to keep their license than to individualize care - so it’s up to you to make the right choices that keep you out of your doctor’s office.

Making Changes

Making the switch to a ketogenic diet is easy as the food is satisfying and filling. The challenge comes in giving up your daily allotment of sugar and carbohydrates. In order to experience the benefits of eating healthy fats you may:

1.Severely reduce or eliminate sugar from your diet.

  1. Reduce carbohydrates to 50 grams per day, including those from vegetables.
  2. Eliminate foods with trans fatty acids.
  3. Eat foods rich in saturated fats, such as nuts, avocado, coconut oil and pastured, organic, non-GMO meats and dairy products.
