In The News

Researchers have learned how you map your surroundings and then follow directions and how this affects memory and learning. Age-related decline in navigational abilities may be independent of any cognitive decline and could form the basis for tool for early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.

Thomas Wolbers, neuroscientist specializing in aging and cognition at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases commented on the information in Science Daily saying:

"In humans, navigation is much more cumbersome to research than learning or memory. But it has such a dramatic impact on everyday life, and the key structures of the 'navigational network' in the brain are very sensitive to both ordinary healthy aging and pathological factors."

Daily Health Tip

Take care of your mitochondria and your mitochondria will take care of you.

Making Changes

Some simple changes will help to modify the way in which your mitochondria function and reduce stress on the little engines that are the basis for energy production in your body.

  1. Intermittent fasting - or going between 12 and 15 hours without food helps to reset the mitochondria.
  2. Reduce your sugar and carbohydrate intake.
  3. Sleep in a completely darkened room as this increases your production of melatonin, which is a potent antioxidant and protects your mitochondria.
  4. Ensure you are getting enough of the following vitamins and minerals:
  5. Magnesium
  6. Ubiquinol (if you’re over 40) or CoQ10 (if you’re younger than 40).
  7. All B vitamins
  8. Alpha - lipoic acid (ALA)

Before running to the supplement store for a bottle of each, spend a few minutes researching the foods that provide you with the nutrition. If you feel you’re short, then make that trip. Don’t get overwhelmed by looking things up - just look at one thing each day and before you know it you’ll have created a plan that will help prevent cancer.

Daily Affirmation

I make deliberate choices that bring me closer to my goals. I set priorities for how I allocate my time and energy. I am willing to change my habits to achieve the things that are important to me.
I prepare for different outcomes. I evaluate the long term consequences of my decisions. If I want to start a family soon, I date others who want children. If I want to travel the world, I choose a profession that allows me to do so.

Fact or Fiction?

Saturn is the 6th planet from the sun but is large enough that you can see it with your naked eye.

Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun and the furthest planet you can see with the naked eye. It is best known for the 30 plus rings that surround the planet.  The first record of the planet was in the 8 century before Christ by the Assyrians. The planet is made mostly of hydrogen and orbits the earth every 29 years.

Have a wonderful day!
