What About Those Electronic Cigs?

FriJuly13CI.jpgIN YOUR DAILY DOSE: today is research that shows e-cigs may be less addictive than traditional cigarettes - but does this make them better?

MAKING CHANGES: Stopping smoking is difficult and challenging - but well worth the effort when you consider the benefits.

FACT OR FICTION:  These little creatures of the night can be scary. They fly using echolocation because their eyesight is so poor, but their hearing is phenomenal.

In The News

Research from Penn State College of Medicine demonstrated that individuals who use e-cigarettes may experience less addiction than those who use traditional cigarettes or tobacco. The results the authors reported were based on survey results and stated:

  • E-cigarette users waited longer after waking to take their first puff
  • The E-cigarette users considered themselves less addicted than traditional smokers
  • E-cigarette users described themselves as having less cravings for the product
  • They found it less difficult to refrain from using the product in restricted areas.

While these results may seem positive, the end result is that people who smoke e-cigarettes are still addicted to their product - and that product contains nicotine, propylene glycol, flavorings, formaldehyde and heavy metals - all of which are carcinogenic and trigger respiratory health conditions.

Daily Health Tip

Smoking is not cool. It wasn’t cool 50 years ago and e-cigarettes do not make it cool today.

Making Changes

Stopping smoking is a challenge - but well worth the effort.

Within the first year of stopping smoking your lungs begin to clear the debris and carcinogenic compounds, your blood pressure normalizes as does your heart rate, and your risk of heart attack becomes half that of a smoker.

Don’t be fooled into smoking electronic cigarettes!

Daily Affirmation

I use my leisure time to develop my strengths further. I enjoy challenging hobbies that stretch my skills.
Today, I focus on my strengths. I excel by expanding on the things I do well.
Self-Reflection Questions:
1. Why is leveraging strengths more effective than fixing weaknesses?
2. What is the relationship between strengths and weaknesses?
3. What 3 strengths describe my personal brand?

Fact or Fiction?

These little creatures of the night can be scary. They fly using echolocation because their eyesight is so poor, but their hearing is phenomenal.  They are warm-blooded, nurse their young and have fur, making them a part of the mammal family, but with wings. They hang upside down during the day to sleep and eat small animals and insects. Bats are the only mammals that fly. There are Flying Squirrels but these animals really only glide from one area to another, while bats use their wings exclusively.

Have a wonderful day!
