You are Likely Deficient and Don’t Know It

WedJune21CI.jpg IN YOUR DAILY DOSE: today is research demonstrating one of the negative effects of  sunscreen.

MAKING CHANGES: You can make one or two simple changes to your routine and  enjoy the benefits of better health.

FACT OR FICTION:Your heart is the world’s most impressive pump. It works 24 hours  each day, without fail, without rest, and asking only for good nutrition in return.

In The News

Your body manufactures vitamin D - and several other key nutrients - from exposure to the sun. However, over years of hearing that the sun causes skin cancer, many slather on the sunscreen each time they go outside - if they go outside.

Your best source of vitamin D is from the sun - but working inside, commuting by car and living north of the equator are all factors that reduce the potential you’ll get enough of the sunny stuff to make enough vitamin D.

Although we call it a vitamin, it is truly a steroid hormone that is essential for many cellular processes - and for which most of us are deficient. Now, researchers have determined that using sunscreen also cuts safe sun exposure - and therefore reduces your ability to produce Vitamin D.

Daily Health Tip

You need 20 minutes each day of safe sun exposure without sunscreen over the majority of your body area - think bathing suit - to manufacture enough vitamin D to maintain optimal health, prevent disease, and stay healthy.

Making Changes

Do NOT use tanning beds to achieve your exposure to UV light as these machines do increase your risk of skin cancer. While sunburns do increase your risk of sun damage and skin cancer, safe exposure to the sun daily does not. In fact, safe exposure actually protects your skin from developing skin cancer.

If you work inside all day, live north of the equator or can’t stick to a safe sun exposure schedule, you may want to consider supplementation with vitamin D3. There are several forms of vitamin D on the shelves, but D3 is the safest, most bioavailable and best option you have.

Remember, you must also take vitamin K2 (MK-7 form) to reduce the potential for plaque build up in your arterial system while taking D3. Exposure to the sun doesn’t require additional supplementation as your body manufactures what is needed to protect your arteries.

Foods that are also high in vitamin D are eggs, wild caught salmon, fatty fish, and beef liver.

Daily Affirmation

My move is organized because I plan ahead. My thoughtful preparation before the move makes the process easier. I use my daily planner to help me stay on track.
I let go of unnecessary clutter. I sell some items and give others away. I start packing clothes and household items I can temporarily do without.

Fact or Fiction?

Your heart is an incredible pump. It creates enough energy each day to drive a truck 20 miles, beats approximately 3.6 million times each year, and pumps 2,000 gallons of blood each day around your body. You are more likely to have a heart attack on Monday and you have a one in three chance that your first heart attack will be your last. A woman’s heart is 25% smaller than a man’s and therefore must pump faster to move the right amount of blood. It is amazing and the workhorse of your body.

Have a wonderful day!
